Freedom baseball’s Griffin Burkholder is a high school star with MLB potential

The ball was gone almost before the crowd had a chance to react. Pressed up against the chain-link fence, toddlers and professional scouts alike craned their necks and widened their eyes.

This is what happens when Griffin Burkholder gets ahold of a fastball.

Moments after trampolining off the silver barrel of Burkholder’s bat, the ball arcs over the scoreboard in left field and comes to rest under a group of trees well beyond the fence. Mark Wrighte, coach at Freedom (South Riding), will later claim that it is the longest home run he’s ever seen at the Eagles’ home field.
