Nationals prospect James Wood awaits his big league callup with Rochester Red Wings

MOOSIC, Pa. — James Wood and Jack Dunn are not exactly a pair you would expect to click.

Wood is 21, easygoing, soft-spoken. The Rochester Red Wings outfielder, expected to be a foundational piece of the Washington Nationals’ rebuild, is hitting .353 with a 1.021 OPS in Class AAA through Sunday. The former second-round draft pick, who arrived as part of the Juan Soto trade in 2022, is one of the top prospects in the sport, using every bit of his 6-foot-7 frame to unload fury on a baseball as few others can.
